During a Thai meal all the food is served together - there's no starter, main course and dessert and Thai people rarely eat desserts other than fresh fruit. They do, however, like to talk about food. The sentence, "Have you already eaten?" is used as frequently as Westerners say "How are you?" and is often used to start a conversation.
