It's 8:24pm. Just sipping on my second cup of tea of the day. Don't really know what to say. I guess I could moan at the prospect of spending the next 48 hours at work. But that would be far too boring & certainly annoying to the optimists of the world. Jenny keeps walking by our department shouting out in her loud conspicuous voice: 'Hi David!' Hi Poppie!' Okay, maybe not Poppie ... but you know what I mean! She is meant to be going to dance school in September inshaAllah. She certainly has the talent. Though when I see her I sometimes recall a conversation I once had with a potential rishta many moons ago. He seemed to be a good muslim & he probably was, inshaAllah. But things didn't progress much. I think it kinda ended soon after I mentioned that I would like to send my future daughter to ballet classes. He couldn't seem to comprehend why anyone would want to do that. To be precise, he commented in a rather arrogant tone as to what a 'waste of time ballet is'. Come on people. Would you rather have them sitting on the sofas watching Indian Films, singing soppy lovey dovey songs & learning to dance in the rain? Or perhaps you'd be happy with your kids hanging around the local kebab house? Yes, please, let's make our deen our way of life. Let's strive to achieve the best we can. Of course we need to ensure they have the correct upbringing, the knowledge & inshaAllah wisdom to live life the way it should be lived inshaAllah. But ballet? Exercise, stability, balance, posture, poise: all contribute to achieving this perfection. You just draw the line when you need to. Here here to the ballet!
